Preventing Errors with Confidence

We all know nurses are superheroes, but all too often, nurses are expected to be almost superhuman in their ability to manage increasingly complex tasks in healthcare, with less support, and less training.

At Quality Nurse Coaching, we support the nurses!

With a special focus on new graduates, we offer experienced coaching and training services, focusing on confidence building in the area of safety and error prevention. When we really listen to the individual concerns of our client nurses, we can tailor our solutions to their specific needs, therefore creating great outcomes for patients AND nurses. See below for how we can support you.

Our Services

  • Private Safety Assessments and Coaching For New Graduates

Many new nurses enter the workforce today feeling a lack of confidence when it comes to handling their patient workloads, and the constantly changing hospital environment they are faced with. Many fear speaking to doctors, or even other nurses, charge nurses or other allied health professionals. This can be a recipe for disaster, leading to errors that can cause patient harm, and cause our newer nurses to leave their jobs before they have had a chance to become fully acclimated. The complexity of expectations within the nursing role itself can set new graduates up for overwhelm and anxiety if they don’t get extra training and support in their early career. It is our position that new graduates should find this support, even if they have seek it out themselves, and especially if their organization is forward thinking enough to seek it out for them as a means to reduce new nurse turnover.

  • Group Error Prevention Classes and Coaching

Every few months we offer an online program focusing on Preventing Errors with Confidence for newly graduated nurses, or anyone else who would like a new framework and way of thinking about any critical thinking moment in which an error is more likely to happen. These classes focus mostly on preventing medication errors since these are the most common errors made by nursing and the most likely to cause harm, but the specific strategies taught will also focus on how to spot the situations in which an error is most likely to occur, and how to communicate in such moments with all types of stakeholders. Optional coaching packages will supplement the group classes in combination with individual client support, in order to implement each teaching into the nurse’s own unit in real time. The goal here is to maximize the benefits of both an error prevention thought framework, and confidence building.

  • Hospital/Unit Medication Error Prevention Training

Research has shown that the best way to implement any Medication Error Prevention plan, is to do so with the support of the entire team of nurses, administration, AND physicians. Let us come in to do an assessment for a small test of change, and then use true High Reliability Organization principles, by talking to your front line of nurses, and finding where the real problems lie in your department(s). By identifying and training your own subject matter experts for each unit, service line, or new graduate cohort, we can help tailor a plan for your hospital, using our framework and strategies.

While we love to train new grads, we recommend calling for a discussion on what might best serve your organization in regards to our services. We can work with you to have materials made with your mission statement and branding combined with our framework.
